MAY 2020 CORE SEO UPDATE
Today we talk about the May 2020 core seo update that has dropped rankings on websites. This could not have come at a worse time. If you look at what has happened with the pandemic which has caused a lot of bushiness to close or rely on website traffic to service, it is almost like the nail in the coffin. Our company that allows you to buy YouTube views and other social media services were also affected. It was not just one niche.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The problem with any big Google update is that most online companies will react right away. Google have stated, especially on the webmaster tool that the best thing to do is wait until the roll out has been completed because there might not be anything that you need to change. What they are doing is giving websites that are up to date, have quality back links and are active, the chance to rank. Which is why some people love the update while others have to now spend a lot of time fixing and updating content to try and claw back their rankings.
WHAT CAN I DO TO FIX MY RANKING POSITION ?
The first thing we noticed is that Google want you to have updated content. You will want to go through your website and update old blogs, they want you to have internal links and not just rely on back-links to high page ranked websites. You will need to do go through your content and see if you have over done it with keyword stuffing as they are very big on this now. There is another website where you can buy Twitter followers from and upload similar blogs, they too were affected.
PROVIDE CLEAN AND CLEAR CONTENT THAT HELPS THE USER
Google have hinted for a while that they are wanting websites to keep their content clean and very informative. Remember quality over quantity. They would much rather see a 600 word page that provide clean cut content and is very user friendly that having a 1,000 word page that repeats itself. With this warning coming over several years they have finally put it into place and yet a lot of website owners are shocked that it has happened.
INTERNAL LINKS
What Google are looking for is for your website to help the user navigate around your content. You will want to make sure that you have internal links that connect to other pages on your website but make sure it is not spam or key word stuffed. The idea is to keep the user on your website as long as possible as that will count as link Juice, thus leading to a better ranking position.
WORD PRESS TOOLS THAT CAN HELP
We have found over a period of time that Rank Math SEO is a great word press plugin to use as it will tell you if your content is long enough, has the right focus keywords and allows you to add rich snippets. This is a great tool to be able to see if your page is optimized correctly. We had used YOAST SEO tool before but both are very different and lately have seen that YOAST SEO has had issues with conflicting plugins so you might want to do a bit of research on that before installing it.
